In my attempt to grow in appreciation of poetry, I have been reading both classic and contemporary poems. As part of this endeavor, I read “The Hound of Heaven” by English poet Francis Thompson. In addition to being written out of his personal experience, I wonder if Thompson had the book of Jonah in mind when he composed “The Hound of Heaven” but today’s devotional explores the connections. The entire poem can be read here although don’t be discouraged, if like me, you get lost in some sections!
