In 1920, the U.S. finally gave women the right to vote. The leadership of the movement leaned on their faith and used Scripture as the basis in their demand for equality. Twenty-five years earlier, suffragist Elizabeth Cady Stanton had worked with other leaders working for women’s rights to publish the best-selling book, The Woman’s Bible, which highlighted Bible passages that affirm gender equality.
I saw the pictures for the march with Psalm 68:11 on their banners at the Bible Museum in Washington, D.C. in an exhibit around the 100th anniversary of the amendment’s passage. Those pictures became the basis for today’s devotional.
Women have always been part of proclaiming God’s story to the world. A key part of that story is that God wants to lead all of us to places of blessing.
All is well,
Lisa
