I have always been moved by the story of British doctor Paul Brand (1914-2003) who worked as a missionary in India and president of The Leprosy Mission UK because of his compassion for men and women who suffered from leprosy. Their suffering not only included their physical ailments but also being shunned from society.
He is also known for the book, The Gift of Pain, that he co-wrote with Philip Yancey.
