Seven years ago, I sensed the Lord telling me to embark on a journey to write a fictional story. I resisted the idea because the notion of writing fiction seemed beyond my abilities. While I enjoy good fiction, I had no experience in crafting stories, developing characters, or painting pictures with words. I didn’t pay attention during my high school English Literature class and creative writing was not in either my engineering or seminary curriculum (though maybe it should have been!). Nevertheless, the Lord was insistent, and so in faith I obeyed.
The series is called the Scroll of Remembrance and the first book is entitled Passage to the House of Power. It’s a prophetic parable because the purpose of the book is to use fantasy to reveal truth, similar to C. S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe or John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress.
Passage to the House of Power chronicles the spiritual journey of a young man named Rom from his awakening in the land of Sebi to a climatic decision in the House of Power. Ultimately, the book is designed to explore issues of pride and humility.
This book is an act of faith. For a long time I was afraid to tell anyone that I was working on this project – mostly out of insecurity and doubt (I do get the irony of struggling with insecurity while writing a book on pride and humility). But the truest form of humility is saying to God, “Not my will but yours be done.” As an act of faith I wrote this book in the hope that it will be a blessing to many.
Passage to the House of Power is set to be released in October 2021 but I will post more details as they are finalized.
